Eric and public-works staff said the South Main Street sidewalk project can proceed now that CSX has approved the city's payment; sidewalks are planned for that corridor and work will commence. Staff also said they will solicit consultants for the Green Street sidewalk project through an RFQ process.
Design for the Celebration Park Botanical Garden is scheduled for completion in August, after which bids are expected and construction could begin in the fall, according to staff. The council also heard that contract details for a proposed glamping resort at the Horse Park are nearing finalization.
Council members reported a meeting is scheduled with Wing (drone aviation company) to explore package-delivery services, especially for seniors; staff said the city will pilot initial flights and test logistics in partnership with the company.
Public-works director Craig Mitchell and staff members Matt McLaughlin (stormwater) and Gabe Ramsey were cited as attendees at recent industry conferences; staff framed the projects as steps to expand sidewalks, improve parks and pursue innovative delivery options while acknowledging further approvals and contracting will be required.
