Conyers Council recognizes councilmember and two volunteer groups for service and cleanup efforts

The Conyers City Council recognized several community members and organizations during the meeting.
Mayor presented the Georgia Municipal Association Certificate of Distinction to Councilmember Valencia Smith, noting it recognizes completion of training through the Harold F. Holtz Municipal Training Institute and the Carl Vinson Institute of Government. The meeting record referenced a training total of 204 hours with at least 72 hours from a required list. Valencia Smith thanked the council and described a focus on youth engagement and applying training to city service.
The council also presented an Adopt-a-Mile recognition to Voices for Rockdale for adopting Pine Log Road and Roland Road; the group reported removing 275 pounds of litter from Pine Log Road at today's cleanup. The Top Ladies of Distinction, New Rock chapter, were recognized for adopting a one-mile stretch of Parker Road and for removing nearly 100 pounds of litter; Lady Sharnita West Jenkins accepted the recognition and thanked the council.
Mayor and staff thanked the volunteer groups, noting that the city contracts for trash pickup but depends on community groups to help manage litter in public corridors.
