Conyers updates sidewalks, botanical garden design and explores glamping resort and drone deliveries

City public works briefed the council on several upcoming and ongoing projects. Staff said CSX had approved payment terms and that work on South Main Street sidewalks will commence; the Green Street sidewalk project will soon move into consultant solicitation (RFQs). Design work for the Celebration Park botanical garden is scheduled to be completed in August, with bids to follow and work anticipated to start in the fall.
Staff also reported contract details are being finalized for a glamping resort at the Horse Park and that the city has scheduled a meeting with Wing Drone Aviation to discuss drone package delivery pilots aimed at improving delivery service to seniors and other residents. "We may be delivering packages in Conyers via drones," staff said, noting the pilot would target reliability for seniors.
Councilmember Charlie highlighted recent events at the Horse Park: a 10-day quarter horse show that filled 537 stalls and drew participants from 30 states plus Canada; the Haines Creek Nature Center was noted in a new hiking guide; and the Bill Pickett Invitational Rodeo had three sold-out shows. Staff also reminded the council of a back-to-school supply giveaway at Wheeler Park on July 26 and that the first day of school is August 4.
