Commission renews home-based soap and bath-products permit for two years

The Kennesaw Planning Commission unanimously approved a two-year renewal of a land-use permit allowing a home-based soap and bath-products business operated by Anne Morin at 1205 Mountain Spring Drive.

Planning staff said the applicant previously received mayor and council approval on 05/15/2023 and has operated without neighbor complaints. Staff described the home workshop where the applicant produces soaps, bath salts and bath bombs using carrier oils, clays, molds and fragrant oils; staff noted products are sold off-site at pop-up locations and online, and that the use is low in commercial intensity because it is contained within an enclosed business space.

"I have been operating for 2 years now," the applicant said in brief remarks explaining her experience and that neighbors generally notice only when a temporary sign is placed.

Staff recommended renewal with the same kinds of conditions applied to similar home-occupation permits: a two-year term beginning on the date of final approval, the permit limited to the current applicant and not transferable, no clients or customers at the residence, no additional employees, and no visible evidence of a home-based business from the right of way. The application had been advertised (MDJ May 13) and a public-notice sign placed on the property.

A motion to approve the renewal with staff conditions was made and seconded; the commission voted unanimously to approve LU202503.

Staff closed with reminders about training and membership opportunities for commissioners and said staff will send sign-up information.
