Arapahoe County commissioners give thumbs-up to Open Spaces’ request for a customized land‑access tracking tool

Open Spaces staff asked the Arapahoe County Board of County Commissioners for a fixed‑asset number to acquire a customized software solution to track incoming requests to traverse or work on county properties, citing a recent increase in access requests around the High Line Canal.

Director Pindgenau said the department has been receiving more requests for access — from pipelines to wildlife surveys — and needs a reliable way to log and manage those requests. Greg Howe was identified as the staff member receiving and processing the majority of those requests.

Staff explained they evaluated options and favored an Accela‑type solution because county personnel are already trained to support that platform, reducing reliance on outside consultants. Commissioners thanked staff for pursuing the asset‑number path rather than asking for forgiveness later.

Chair counted commissioners’ responses and recorded five thumbs in favor of issuing the asset number so Open Spaces can proceed to acquire the customized software. Staff did not present a formal motion or vote; commissioners’ direction was informal approval to move forward.

The board did not set a procurement schedule at the meeting; staff said they would follow standard county purchasing and asset‑management procedures as they acquire the solution.
