Birmingham officials to study outdoor dining platforms after complaints about parking and accessibility

Planning staff told the June 16 joint meeting that outdoor dining platforms have surged downtown and asked whether the planning board should study limits on number, density or placement.
"We just, in the last 2 or 3 months, received applications for 3 more platforms, 2 of which have been approved, 1 of which is still in the process," Mr. Dupuy said, and staff noted there are 48 outdoor-dining permits overall and about 15 raised platforms concentrated in the core downtown.
