Birmingham commission renews Comcast video franchise for another decade

The Birmingham City Commission voted May 19 to renew its franchise agreement with Comcast for an additional 10 years. No Comcast representatives attended the meeting and no members of the public spoke during the hearing. Counsel said proper public notice had been issued and recommended adoption of the suggested resolution. After brief discussion and no public comment, the commission adopted the resolution by roll call.
The vote authorizes staff to proceed with renewal steps consistent with the ordinance and existing franchise terms; staff will coordinate the final agreement details and any necessary administrative filings.
