Plano ISD launches SOP initiative; over 150 standard operating procedures drafted

Plano ISD leaders described progress on a district‑wide standard operating procedures (SOP) initiative intended to document processes, reduce operational risk and make internal and external information more consistent and accessible.

Chief Strategy Officer Ivan Cantu and Executive Director of Internal Audit Jenna Isensee told trustees the SOP project began more than a year ago and moved to an active implementation phase this spring. They reported more than 150 SOPs drafted across departments following workshops and template guidance; the SOPs will be periodically updated and used to inform a new district website layout so users can find consistent how‑to information. Benefits cited include improved onboarding, clearer roles and responsibilities, stronger internal controls and reduced audit risk.

Staff outlined a multi‑phase approach with department workshops, rubrics, and a plan for linking SOPs to related board policies. The initiative is ongoing and will expand by priority areas; staff said some SOPs will be available internally by July to support campus operations in the new school year.
