Resident asks county not to display new Beehive flag at meetings until official implementation

Mark Allen, representing Protect and Preserve American Fork Canyon, addressed the Utah County Board of County Commissioners on May 31 and asked that a recently proposed Beehive (state) flag not be displayed at county meetings until the official implementation process is complete. "The Beehive flag should not be being displayed until, next year," Allen said, calling the flag "the most divisive issue I've seen." He said the process that led to the flag's selection was not broadly representative and that showing it now risks normalizing a symbol he said is not yet official.
Allen read background information about the state flag — including references to the beehive, the state flower and the year Utah joined the Union — and urged the Board to delay display until the governor’s executive order and official timing are clear. He said residents are collecting signatures to seek broader public input and noted that some delegates had voted to retain the traditional flag at a recent meeting.
No formal action was taken in response to Allen's request at the May 31 meeting. The Board did not vote or issue a directive regarding flag display during the session.
