Spanish Fork High School requested use of the county's historic courthouse for its May 15 prom and asked for a full or partial waiver of the facility rental fee. Public Works (Richard Nelson) said the school plans to donate 25% of ticket proceeds to Make-A-Wish and that the full facility rental fee is $1,600.
Commissioners discussed the county's direct costs for hosting events (set-up, take-down, staffing, law enforcement contract) and indicated reluctance to fully subsidize the event. The commission approved a conditional partial waiver: the waiver will equal the typical facility fee minus the county's actual expenses for the event, to be calculated by Public Works. The chair moved the conditional approval and commissioners adopted the motion by voice vote recorded in the meeting as "2 0."
Public Works staff will confirm hard costs and notify the school; law enforcement and other permit-related expenses will remain separate contracts the school must cover.
The action authorizes staff to finalize the waiver amount by correspondence rather than waiting a week for another meeting, allowing the prom planning to proceed on a quicker timeline.
