Utah County commissioners voted to ratify the portions of the county's tax-sale list that were sold without protest or federal-lien holds, allowing staff to issue tax deeds and record ownership changes.
County tax staff presented the attachment of parcels they recommended for ratification and confirmed those parcels had no pending protests or federal liens, which would require a statutory waiting period. After clarification that the motion should reference "the portions that are on the attachment," a commissioner moved to adopt the item as outlined; the motion passed unanimously.
County staff also summarized the county's first online tax sale. "Generally, I would say positive experience," said Paul, the staff member presenting the tax-sale results. He said the county selected an online auction vendor specializing in property and tax-sale auctions to reach a wider audience and that several parcels sold for higher values than expected, including an abandoned occupied home that brought more than the county predicted. Staff noted that any amount above delinquent taxes, interest and costs is returned to the original property owner.
Commissioners asked whether the online sale changed administrative workload; staff said administrative work remained similar but bidders provided feedback on process improvements. Commissioners thanked staff for pursuing an approach that, they said, could maximize recovery for owners and lienholders.
Next steps: county staff will issue tax deeds for the ratified parcels and continue follow-up on parcels held for protests or federal-lien waiting periods.
