Commission approves FEMA-funded vaccination support items including staffing and leased clinic space

The commission approved four agenda items to support county vaccination efforts, including a federal-funded contract through the Utah Department of Health to increase vaccine delivery, additional staffing for clinics (nurses and clinical assistants), and the lease and cleaning of approximately 10,000 square feet of extra space at the county vaccination site to improve social distancing and throughput.
Eric Edwards with the county health department described the items as primarily supported with federal funds through the Utah Department of Health and FEMA public-assistance grants, subject to grant eligibility. He said the additional leased space would allow the county to safely manage larger lines and that cleaning services for the space were included in the package. Commissioner Ainge moved to approve items 16, 17, 23 and 25 and the motion passed 3–0.
Commissioners clarified that if FEMA/public assistance cannot fund parts of the work the county would use CARES funds instead. The vote authorizes staff to proceed with the contracts and leasing required to expand vaccine clinic capacity.
