Utah County recognizes Sergeant Chris Sainsbury and Deputy Ray Ormond for service

The Utah County Board of County Commissioners paused during its regular meeting to recognize two employees for service to the county.

A nomination letter read at the meeting named Sergeant Chris Sainsbury as the employee of the month for October. The letter credited Sainsbury with improvements to the jail industries program — including new recreational equipment, a productive garden and greenhouse, morale improvements among staff and inmates, and plans to involve inmates in animal-adoption work with a local shelter. The nomination letter said Sainsbury had helped make jail industries “a coveted place to work” and praised his attention to listening to staff, volunteers and inmates.

The commission also read a nomination letter honoring Deputy Ray Ormond for his actions during a house fire at Pablo Creek Canyon. The letter described Ormond and others locating downed firefighters after a garage roof collapse, assisting with oxygen tanks and equipment, attempting to free a firefighter pinned under a truss, and helping set up a life-flight landing zone. The letter concluded that Ormond’s actions were “heroic and selfless.” Deputy Ormond spoke briefly and said he acted to prevent loss of life and appreciated the recognition.

The chair presented the letters and called the recognitions part of the meeting’s consent/recognition items; there was no related vote recorded. The commission thanked the employees for their service.
