Utah County GIS honored with Esri Special Achievement award

County IT and GIS staff told commissioners Utah County’s GIS team was selected for Esri’s Special Achievement in GIS award for innovations including real-time election results publishing, department portals and asset-tracking tools.
Utah County staff used the meeting to recognize the county’s GIS division after it received Esri’s Special Achievement in GIS award.
Patrick Warrow, director of Information Services, introduced the recognition and said the award highlights innovative work across county departments. Darren Slite of Utah County GIS told the board that the county was one of roughly 180 organizations chosen from more than 100,000 Esri clients worldwide. "Our organization was one of 180 chosen out of more than 100,000 Esri clients worldwide," Slite said, noting projects such as election-results publishing, ballot tracking, department-level GIS portals, and custom development for asset management and tax assessment analytics.
Warrow thanked the GIS staff and introduced members present, including Caleb Smith, Dave Henry, Andrew Beepless, Curtis Wursten and Nathan Thomas; two staff members were not present. Commissioners praised the work and noted prior presentations of IT accomplishments.
The board did not take formal action on the recognition beyond public commendation, but commissioners and staff emphasized that GIS tools aided operations during the pandemic and advance county services.
