Utah County keeps Clinical Assistant II role after staffing-plan error; action passes 3–0

The Utah County Board of County Commissioners voted 3–0 to permit an existing Clinical Assistant II position to remain in the health department staffing plan after staff said the slot had been left in records in error but is needed operationally.

Eric Edwards of the Utah County Health Department explained the position was supposed to be removed when the incumbent was promoted; the vacancy slipped through the staffing-plan process and was later filled. Edwards said the position is critical for immigration-related services and cancer-screening work and noted the hire brought bilingual skills the department needs.

Edwards told commissioners the health department expects to cover the role through a combination of sources, including a $25,000 increase to the county's cancer-screening contract and projected fee recovery as services resume after COVID-19 disruptions. County staff cautioned that funding must be monitored because some elements are grant-based or otherwise contingent.

A county staff member identifying themself as "Merit" clarified that the position showed in published staffing reports (and therefore the staffing plan) but had a caveat attached indicating it was not funded; the present action was to correct the public record and ensure funding oversight.

A commissioner moved to allow the Clinical Assistant II position to remain as described in agenda item 10. The motion was seconded and passed unanimously, recorded as 3–0. Commissioners asked staff to track the position's funding and report back if projected revenues or grant support change.
