County approves Saratoga Springs North Marina sponsorship after removing sentence that would bind county to future costs

The Utah County Commission approved a modified sponsorship agreement with the City of Saratoga Springs for the construction of the North Marina after removing a sentence that would have committed the county to future, unspecified expenses.
Commissioner Sakovich flagged a sentence on page 2 of the agreement that said the county —shall be expected to contribute to any future expenses associated with the current and subsequent phases of the North Marina project, including but not limited to development expenses or maintenance expense.— County attorney staff, including Adam Beck and Rob Moore, recommended deleting that sentence because it could bind the county to future obligations that had not been approved through the county—s usual TAB or contracting processes.
Rob Moore advised striking the provision manually and having the commissioner initial the change so the city could immediately receive a signed copy and then place the revised agreement back on their agenda. Commissioner Sakovich moved approval with the indicated sentence stricken and initialed by the commissioner; the motion passed with recorded ayes across the board.
The action authorizes the county to proceed with the $2.5 million phase of work for dredging and jetty construction while avoiding an open-ended local commitment to unspecified future phases.
