Robert Baxter, the county purchasing manager, told the Utah County Commission that he has contacted county offices and reached an understanding to end the countywide third‑party shredding contract and perform shredding internally.
"We're going to terminate the contract countywide. We're going to, go ahead and use, do all the shredding internally," Baxter said, and added that the vendor is expected to make one final pickup on Feb. 4.
Commissioners discussed whether a formal termination document or a final acceptance and payment is required to satisfy county purchasing obligations. Baxter recommended coordinating with the attorney's office to document final acceptance if needed.
After discussion, a commissioner moved to strike consent agenda item number 9 (the shredding contract item); the motion was seconded and passed by a unanimous vote of 3–0. The commission instructed staff to either finalize termination paperwork or, if needed, reintroduce a revised contract item later.
The action removes the item from the consent agenda and leaves the purchasing office to coordinate final steps with the county attorney and the vendor. The commission did not authorize any new third‑party shredding contract at the meeting.
