Commission approves GSBS fee modification after discussion of county office-space priorities

Richard (Speaker 7), who presented the item, told commissioners the proposed change to the GSBS agreement covers two elements: about $14,500 for additional work done to address concerns raised by newly elected officials (specifically meetings with the county attorney and clerk-auditor) and under $23,000 for additional scenario analysis requested after subsequent meetings. He said those two items are contained in the proposed amendment.
Speaker 3 and others expressed concern that the study’s scope had expanded beyond the original public-works-focused assessment and urged that the commission be included in follow-up meetings so countywide office-space priorities can be fully articulated. Speaker 3 emphasized the county is “way behind” on office-space needs and that the commission must ensure the engagement addresses county priorities, not only one department’s needs.
Speaker 4 said approving the amendment would give the county the opportunity to expand the study and address broader needs. After discussion, Speaker 4 moved to approve consent agenda item number 11; Speaker 2 seconded the motion. The commission approved the amendment by voice vote, 3-0.
Commissioners requested another sit-down with GSBS and representatives (the presenters suggested a meeting with the three of them and the vendor) to confirm priorities and avoid further scope creep before larger building recommendations proceed.
