Utah County approves filing and sets public hearing for Recycling Market Development Zone recertification

The Utah County Commission approved filing an application to recertify the county's designation under the Utah Recycling Market Development Zone program and set a public hearing for Nov. 27, 2018, at 9 a.m.

Planning staff explained the designation, created by the Utah Legislature in 1976, provides state income tax credits to businesses that incorporate recycling into their processes. The county previously secured designation and must recertify every five years; staff said the state recently amended application forms and now requires a public hearing as part of the process.

"If they choose to do this, if they qualify, that actually comes back to them in return where, the Utah State tax, income tax credit, they actually receive credit for cost of machinery and equipment and eligible operating expenses," Planning staff (Peggy) said. She said McWane Ductile (also identified in the record by earlier trade names) and other businesses have used the designation in the past and that staff will upload the application and supporting resolution for public view ahead of the hearing. Commissioners approved filing the application and then voted to set the Nov. 27, 2018, public hearing; both motions passed 3-0.
