The Utah County Board of County Commissioners voted to adopt the state-certified property tax rate levies for 2018, approving a resolution that implements the rates the State Tax Commission calculated for the county and several special service areas.
Miss Harvey, who introduced the item, told commissioners the certified countywide rate and several service-area rates are fractional amounts and that overall the certified rate "decreased over last year" because assessed values in Utah County have continued to rise. She noted the multi-county assessing-collecting rate is a pass-through the county collects for the state tax commission.
The discussion clarified that the county may adopt the certified rates or choose a lower rate, but because the county did not conduct a truth-in-taxation process this year it cannot impose a higher rate. Commissioners asked procedural questions about timing of evaluation notices and mailing schedules. After brief questions, a commissioner moved to adopt the resolution and the motion was seconded; the measure carried by voice vote, recorded as 3-0.
The adopted rates will be used to calculate property-tax notices and collections for 2018. The county clerk and auditor'office will complete the necessary administrative steps to apply the certified figures.
