The Utah County Board of Commissioners ratified the 2018 fair treasurer contract with Mel Hudman after a short procedural exchange about contracting processes.
One commissioner said they support Mel Hudman and his work but raised a procedural question about why the contract was processed through the county rather than through the Convention & Visitors Bureau (CVB), which historically handled fair contracts. Ben Van Noy from the county attorneys office explained Mel Hudman has performed budgeting duties for the fair for many years, that the county has historically handled the arrangement, and that the budgeting amount has been set aside inside the fair budget for several years.
Unidentified Speaker 1 moved to ratify the contract and Unidentified Speaker 3 seconded. The commission approved the motion by voice vote, recorded as 3-0.
Commissioners said they will continue reviewing the fair contracting process in upcoming meetings to decide whether future agreements should be processed differently.
