Commissioners revise Northpointe Solid Waste board appointments to meet state law and open vacancies

Commissioners explained the changes are intended to bring the district’s appointment process into compliance with state law after a review found several recently incorporated cities within the district do not qualify for a direct appointment right. Commissioner Lee and board representatives said the county will advertise vacancies, notify affected cities of openings, and follow an appointment process for those seats.
Commissioner Lee moved to adopt the resolution (agenda item 5); the motion was seconded and carried by voice vote recorded as 2–0. He then moved to authorize the commission chair to sign and execute the notice of vacancies (agenda item 6); that motion also carried 2–0.
County and district officials said this step is intended to clarify board membership and provide an open application process for appointments; commissioners said they had discussed the approach with city officials within the district before the vote.
