Commission delays Crandall Printing Museum funding request, seeks tourism board review

The Utah County Commission continued for one week a request for annual seed funding to support the Crandall Printing Museum, asking the tourism tax advisory board to meet and provide input before the commission moves forward.
Brent Hayman told commissioners the museum needs short-term seed money to restore operations, hire professional support and pursue grants and partnerships; he described the museum's unique Gutenberg press and linotype collections and argued a modest county contribution could leverage broader support. Hayman said the museum would need a budget of about $200,000 a year to operate effectively once stabilized.
Commissioners and the county auditor cautioned that TRCC (Tourism, Recreation, Cultural and Convention) funds are statutorily limited and that previous audit findings require clear documentation, priorities, contracts and follow-up measures before awards. The county auditor recommended caution and said the advisory board's public meeting recommendation is an essential step. Commissioners instructed staff to convene the tourism tax advisory committee for a public review and return next week with the committee's recommendation and any proposed contract terms; the item was continued 3-0.
