The Rutherford Board of Education voted unanimously on multiple consent and action items at its Oct. 21 regular meeting.
Personnel: The board considered a slate of recommended personnel actions from the superintendent's office including a resignation at Pierpont School, approval of a high-school social studies teacher, business-office hires, a consultant, lunch monitor and coaching assignments, several disability leaves, internships and travel reimbursements. Mrs. Cole moved motions 1 through 13 and 16; Mr. Sprayberry seconded. The board took a roll-call vote and all present members recorded affirmative votes; the motion carried.
Curriculum: The curriculum agenda included a revised school calendar adding March 3 as an afternoon professional development day (bringing the year to 184 total days), approvals for out-of-district placements, field trips, emergency bus-evacuation drills, and the summer-enrichment program expansion for rising fourth graders (a pay-for-itself program). The board approved procurement and curriculum resolutions by roll call.
Finance and donations: The finance committee brought six motions: routine approval of bills, the August treasurer's report, budget line-item transfers for August, and acceptance of three donations: (1) latex swimming caps from the Rutherford Swim Association, (2) playground equipment suitable for Washington School preschool from Joanne Abate, and (3) dental-care packages from Dr. Shefali Pilar of Smile Today Dentistry. Those finance motions were moved, seconded and carried by unanimous roll call.
Buildings & grounds: A buildings and grounds motion (related to bid planning and project prioritization) was presented and approved by roll call.
Vote tallies and procedure: Where formal roll-call votes were recorded in the transcript, each motion that went to roll call passed unanimously with each named member voting "Yes"; individual roll-call segments show eight affirmative votes in the personnel and committee votes recorded.
Next steps: Approved personnel will be added to district records; curriculum and finance approvals proceed to implementation steps managed by the superintendent and appropriate committees.
The board adjourned after opening and immediately closing a public comment period with no members of the public present.
