The Zion City Council on June 18 voted unanimously to approve two intergovernmental agreements that will move the city into Lake County’s consolidated emergency communications and joint emergency telephone system structures.
City staff described the agreements as early steps in migrating dispatch and 9-1-1 telephone services to a consolidated regional system. Staff recommended, and council approved, appointing the city administrator as the municipality’s director on the Lake County consolidated communications board with the mayor named as the alternate.
Council discussion included the mechanics of the appointments and an on-the-record amendment to clarify who serves as principal and alternate on the board. The amended resolution naming the administrator as director and the mayor as alternate passed on a roll-call vote.
Officials said the move would allow the city to dissolve its current dispatch fund and migrate remaining balances into the consolidated fund; no schedule for migration was provided at the meeting.
