Parks board approves multiple maintenance actions: bids opened, quotes sought and a $23,921.60 change order

The Evansville City Board of Parks Commissioners on Sept. 4 approved a series of maintenance and procurement actions, opened multiple bids and accepted a change order for a park entrance.
Deputy Director Paul Bausman asked the board for permission to seek quotes to repave the McDonald’s golf course parking lot and several athletic courts across the city (Bausman named Gulf Moore, Diamond and Westside Nut Club Park among the sites). The board approved staff seeking quotes to determine scope and budget.
Staff opened sealed bids for rooftop units 2 and 3 at the city ice arena. Announced bids included Alpha Energy Solutions ($992,000), Debra Kempel ($668,200) and Dye Brothers ($875,800). Staff said purchasing will review the bids for responsiveness and recommend an award, typically to the lowest responsive bidder.
For concrete work at Mesker Park Zoo (multiple small sections including Panorama barns, watering hole patio and Amazonia walks), staff reported a single bidder (Dike/Dye Brothers) with sectionized quote amounts totaling $145,360; staff said it will allocate available funds to complete the highest-priority permutations of work.
The board also approved executing an agreement with Hafer to continue design work on Centerpoint Square (aka Centerpoint Energy Square). Staff noted the project began under DMD and that forward progress depends on completion of an associated residential development that is using part of the park as a laydown area.
Separately, the board approved a construction change order for the Wesselman Woods entrance after the contractor encountered thinner-than-expected material. Added HMA compact aggregate cost $39,641.60 with a quantity-based unit-price reduction of $15,720, for a net change order of $23,921.60; staff confirmed available funds and the board approved the change order.
Finally, the board moved to accept vendor and payroll claims and adjourned the meeting.
