At its Sept. 10 meeting, the Milledgeville City Council approved several routine but consequential measures, including service‑line inventory contracting in support of lead‑and‑copper work, a telecom lease amendment and a retail alcohol license.
Service‑line inventory and lead/copper compliance: The council adopted a resolution (R‑2409‑40) containing tentative contract wording requested by a funding partner (Jifa) so the city could meet grant/loan conditions tied to lead‑and‑copper work. City Manager Griffin said the city had applied for and received a $426,750 loan in April for related work and reported an initial inventory of about 6,000 suspected service lines that staff expect to reduce to roughly 4,000 after follow‑up review. The council then authorized a contract (R‑2409‑41) with Utility and Water Services Incorporated to perform the service‑line inventory; the contract was approved on roll call and will move forward.
Telecom lease: The council passed R‑2409‑42, a first amendment to the tower attachment lease with Verizon Wireless for equipment placement and rent on the water tank at 139 Robertson Mill Road. The amendment was adopted by roll call with unanimous support.
Business license / alcohol permit: Council approved a substitute to an ordinance on license fees (O‑2408‑13) and later approved an alcohol license application for Maruti Nanderan Incorporated doing business as Exxon Food Mart at 600 North Jefferson Street (beer and wine, package sales to go).
Other items: The council gave first reading and referred O‑2409‑16, a rezoning request for 1012 Fernwood Drive from single family residential to planned development for future expansion, to the planning and zoning commission. The meeting adjourned after a final roll call.
