The Kearney Board of Aldermen approved Resolution 52-20-24 to amend the municipal materials management agreement with Allied Services LLC (doing business as Republic Services of Kansas City), moving the contract end date to Dec. 31, 2024, and directing staff to post bid notices for a replacement contract starting Jan. 1.
City Administrator Sheila Erzen said the addendum would allow the city to solicit proposals so it can select the best price and service for residents. Erzen said the intention is to have any new contract in place to start Jan. 1, and that the bid documents require a successful bidder to deliver carts by Jan. 1 to prevent service disruption.
Board members acknowledged the possibility of “hiccups” during a provider change. The mayor commented that residents are currently paying for “subpar service”; staff responded that bid documents will include delivery of carts and other requirements intended to limit service disruptions.
The resolution passed by voice vote and was recorded as approved. Staff will proceed with the RFP process and related procurement steps.
