Van Buren Countys Quorum Court approved an appropriation of $66,811.68 into the additional fuel tax fund to pay for road maintenance following the January snowstorm. The presiding official noted $32,537.69 of the fund was already on hand and that the additional fuel tax fund is used to track emergency spending related to road maintenance.
The court also adopted resolutions expressing the countys willingness to utilize federal-aid monies for two bridge replacement projects: Lazy Creek Bridge (structure 23689, Lake Cliff Road) and Scotland Branch Bridge (structure M3015 on Old Highway 389). County staff said the resolutions allow the county to move forward with national infrastructure program grants and clarified that any required utility relocations would be the countys responsibility under the program.
Both the additional-fuel-tax appropriation and the federal-aid resolutions were approved by the court without recorded opposition. Court members said the actions were procedural steps to secure funding and begin project planning.
