Parents urge Tempe Union to align dress-code enforcement with handbook and avoid shaming students

Jennifer Brock, a Mountain Pointe parent, said the last-minute nature of the changes forced families to buy new clothing and criticized rules she said singled out midriffs and effectively shamed girls. "Shame on you for placing the blame on the girls," she told trustees, calling for language that does not place responsibility for classroom disruptions solely on female students.
Vanessa Romero, another Mountain Pointe parent and longtime district parent, described her daughter’s performance activities and said she fears the policy changes could interfere with extracurricular programs. Romero asked the board to ensure school dress regulations align with the Tempe Union student handbook.
Trustees acknowledged the concerns; President Montero and Member James said they would follow up and that clarifying and aligning regulations with the handbook could be added to future agenda work so enforcement is clear and consistent across sites.
