Taylor council approves multiple purchases, contracts and HUD/CDBG submissions; several motions unanimous

The Taylor City Council on June 17 approved a series of procurement and program motions covering equipment, contracts and federal grant paperwork.
The council voted to approve routine consent items and a set of separate motions including low bids for equipment (a draft-beer cooler for the Lakes of Taylor Ballroom for up to $4,500; multiple vehicle purchases totaling roughly $390,502 across building department and other vehicle accounts); a five-year license for seven police cameras (not to exceed $5,620); two Dominion Voting ImageCast central scanners for the clerk’s office (not to exceed $20,000); and a new tractor and rotary boom mower for the Department of Public Works (not to exceed $186,382). All these motions carried without extended debate.
Council also approved emergency and repair expenditures: Apollo Fire Apparatus was approved for emergency repairs to Fire Engine 2 in an amount not to exceed $46,042, with staff saying the engine had been struck while the crew was on-scene. The council approved a $15,000 emergency deferred loan for an emergency sewer repair project funded through the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) home rehabilitation account.
On federal and grant paperwork, the council authorized the mayor to sign the 2021 subrecipient agreement for the Wayne County Home Buyers Assistance Program ($219,590) and adopted the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) program year 2025–2026 action plan, authorizing required HUD certifications and submissions.
Two facilities-related items drew recorded roll-call votes. Council approved DECAL Inc. for HVAC/R maintenance and repair citywide (up to $250,000) with a recorded tally of 5–1; one member said the work should be performed in-house. Council likewise approved an increase of $12,000 for HVAC consulting services (total not to exceed $206,500) for police department and city hall buildings on a 5–1 vote.
The council carried these measures by voice vote or roll call as noted and adjourned after an extended open-comment period.
