Superintendent details Ida recovery, free lunches and field assessments

Superintendent Danielle Shamling told the board the district is continuing recovery work after flooding caused by Ida and shared operational updates affecting students and families. "So, I just want to remind everybody that lunch is available free to all students for the duration of the school year," Shamling said, noting the district is operating under federal meal provisions and has served thousands of meals since school reopening.
Shamling described athletic-field work: the track requires a professional evaluation before remediation and cleanup can begin; the main field has passed a G Max safety test, and the district paid for additional sanitization as a precaution. She said the district currently does not have working lights on the football field, which may force the week's game to be played on the road; timing and location were still to be determined.
On enrollment and outcomes, the superintendent reported the district has enrolled 2,065 students for the 2021'22 school year and said the high-school graduation-rate report for the Class of 2021 was 98.4 percent.
Shamling asked for patience as facilities and athletic staff complete assessments and as administrators work to communicate logistics for events and activities to families.
