The Albany Fire Department asked the commission on July 1 to consider an intergovernmental agreement that would add 143 Marine Corps Logistics Base radios to the city’s P25 radio system at an annual cost of $14,713.27.
The chief told the commission staff has worked on the arrangement for roughly two years and presented the cost and operational details. Commissioners expressed general support for partnering with the base but asked staff and the city attorney to clarify the contract’s funding contingencies, the ten-year term and the six-month termination clause. The mayor and others recommended that any material contingencies or potential responsibilities for city staff time be explicitly noted in the agenda materials.
“Anytime we can work with the Marine Corps Logistics Base — it's the biggest private employer — we should not forget that,” the mayor said in support of the collaboration while asking for clearer notation of possible cons or staff responsibilities in the agenda packet.
The chief agreed to work with the city attorney to identify and, if appropriate, add contract provisions or agenda-note language clarifying subject-to-fund clauses and staff obligations. The commission did not record a final vote on the agreement during the work session; staff said they would return with recommended contractual clarifications.
The item will appear in a future regular meeting packet after city attorney review and any recommended edits are incorporated.
