Fountain Hills district earns A; middle school posts largest gain, McDowell Mountain gets first grade

Superintendent Doctor Jay told the Fountain Hills Unified School District board on Nov. 6 that the district earned an overall A grade in the state’s most recent school‑grading cycle. The report credited teachers, staff and families for “huge growth” across multiple measures.
At the school level, Fountain Hills High School retained an A and showed gains on the college and career readiness index, Doctor Jay said. Fountain Hills Middle School recorded the largest jump — a gain from 65 to 85 points — pushing it well into the scoring band used for higher letter grades. McDowell Mountain Elementary, which previously lacked a baseline because it was K–3, received its first letter grade and landed at a B.
The superintendent said administrators will schedule recognition events and assemblies at the A‑rated schools to acknowledge staff and students. Board members praised principals and teachers and urged continued work to sustain the gains.
The board did not vote on academic policy changes at the meeting; the item was an informational report. District leaders said they plan follow‑up briefings and parent invitations for upcoming school recognition events.
