Council also approved Bill 6135 — an amendment to ordinance 5029 that would allow a middle-school component for the school listed in the ordinance as "DeSmet Jessalet High School" at 233 North New Bellas Road — after brief council comment that the project will benefit nearby residents. Bill 6136, a second amendment to the Drury Inn conditional-use permit to allow exterior alterations, an increase in hotel rooms, and updated parking requirements, was presented and approved after a short exchange about driveway access and site matters.
In parks business the council approved Resolution 1754, authorizing a contract with Brady Construction Incorporated for the Venable Park restroom conversion project for a not-to-exceed lump-sum amount of $97,980. Steve Perez, city engineer, said the project is included in the FY25 budget, was released for bid on Aug. 16, received two bids, and includes a metal roof, new skylights and ventilation, lockable doors, and heated fixtures to prevent pipe freezing. Council approved the resolution unanimously.
The council also approved several committee appointments recommended by the nominating committee.
