Vernon Hills board approves outdoor-permit for Vernon Food Mart with conditions

The Village Board approved Resolution 2024-029 on Sept. 17 granting an outdoor establishment permit for Vernon Food Mart at 485 W. Townline Road under new management, with conditions clarifying the diagram and equipment placement.
Director Jennings explained that Vernon Food Mart previously applied for a liquor license and separately applied for an outdoor merchandise permit; the current request documents an existing ice machine and propane-exchange cage and proposes adding a limited firewood display. Countryside Fire Protection District reviewed the plan and had no objection.
Jimmy Thomas, representing Vernon Food Mart, confirmed that the propane and ice locations remain as currently placed and that the firewood will occupy the small yellow area shown on the diagram. Trustees asked staff to remove incorrect references to "outdoor dining" that appeared in the draft resolution and requested that the resolution attach the full application and correct diagrams with dimensions; staff agreed to make those corrections before finalizing the record.
The motion to approve passed by roll call with aye votes recorded from Trustee Schenck, Trustee Markhart, Trustee Forster, Trustee Oppenheim and Chairman Pro Tem Cook.
"There's actually I believe you have a dimension on one of the papers... the full application is gonna be attached to the resolution," Director Jennings said when describing the application materials.
