The Vernon Hills Village Board voted unanimously to adopt Ordinance 2024-109, amending a prior ordinance to allow a brand-specific exterior for Ace Pickleball at 555 Townline Road, Unit 100.
Director Jennings said the special-use permit for the indoor pickleball facility had been amended earlier to replace the operator and that the property owner and tenant are seeking a more brand-specific elevation. "The proposal here is to complement what is being done at Harbor Freight, but then have an entry feature that's specific to the brand image for Ace Pickleball," Jennings said.
Trustees asked clarifying questions about construction details and opening timeline; staff said no exact opening date was available yet but expected interior work (flooring and lighting) to be modest. Following a motion and second, the board conducted a roll call vote in which Trustee Oppenheim, Trustee Markworth, Trustee Forster, Trustee Schenck, President Byrne and Chairman Pro Tem Cook all voted "Aye." The chair declared the motion carried.
Director Jennings said the applicant and landlord were not present at the meeting and that staff could table the matter if additional information was required, but trustees expressed no objection and approved the ordinance as presented.
