Assistant superintendent Jimenez told trustees the primary reason for the earlier start dates is a change in state CALPADS reporting timelines that moved the final graduation-data reporting deadline to June 30; districts are adjusting start and end dates so staff have sufficient time to complete required reporting. "The final timeline to report graduation data has moved up ... to June 30," Jimenez said, and that shift influenced the calendar committee's recommendation.
Trustees discussed impacts on summer timing and staff work-year schedules; district staff said unions and employees will continue to be engaged about any impacts on work-year start dates. The calendars were developed by a committee that included union and management representatives and will proceed to implementation, with principals selecting one district-determined non-student day per school.
