Franklin youth council seeks lights for Youngs Creek pickleball courts, cites $150,000 estimate and donated electrical work

The council presentation outlined past projects — a Moon Tree planting and an electric vehicle charger at the amphitheater — then turned to the lighting proposal. Moore and fellow officers said Houston Electric has agreed to donate all electrical work and to manage the project. The students estimated the fixture cost at about $150,000 and said they will pursue fundraising and grants; they reported $857 raised at a recent pickleball tournament involving 26 teams.
Students and council members described the project as benefiting all ages and noted collaboration with the city engineer, Parks and Recreation, and school officials. Moore told the meeting the group hopes to complete the project by the end of the school year in May.
The presentation did not include a formal funding commitment from the city; student leaders said further fundraising and grant applications will be needed. Council members expressed support and thanked the students for their work.
The youth leaders’ next steps: continued coordination with Houston Electric and municipal staff, fundraising events and grant applications to close the remaining funding gap.
