Northgate golfers honored for state championship; East Coweta teacher recognized

The board recognized a Northgate High student and coach after winning a state golf championship (first Coweta County title since 1938 was noted) and honored East Coweta Middle School teacher Leandro Rodriguez as the 2024 FLAG Teacher of Promise.
The Coweta County Board of Education opened the meeting with recognitions for student and staff accomplishments.
A Northgate High School golfer thanked Coach D and teammates after the school’s state golf championship. The student said the coach’s emphasis on ‘‘boring golf’’ — making pars and playing consistent rounds — shaped the team’s approach. A board member noted that a Coweta County high school last won the state golf title in 1938 (Noonan), and urged the district not to wait so long for another title.
Later, East Coweta Middle School teacher Leandro Rodriguez was introduced as the 2024 FLAG Teacher of Promise by Dr. Paula Baker and Principal Chad Collert. Chad Kohler presented Rodriguez and noted Rodriguez also received recognition from the National Society of High School Scholars and an AATSP of Georgia mini grant. Rodriguez thanked colleagues and described sharing her culture and language with students as an honor, saying, "Sharing my culture and my language with my students is an honor. Every day for me is an adventure and I'm very happy to make the difference." Board members applauded the recognitions.
