Staff also reported about $20,000 of current overages and said the resolution increases the county’s authority to pay additional contractor costs by roughly $100,000 to cover potential extra expenses.
"Without this resolution, we can't pay the contractor because IDOT won't let us spend the money," the staff member said, explaining the county must tell IDOT to reserve the funds so the contractor can be paid and the project closed out. Commissioners asked for details on the overages and alternatives; staff described options including replacing the roof with a standing-seam system (more expensive) versus reinstalling the same type of roof, which they said would save about $10,000 and better match building constraints.
The board moved and approved the IDOT authorization/reservation resolution on voice vote. Staff said the project will be closed out with IDOT at completion and that the additional authority is intended to cover legitimate change orders and unforeseen conditions.
