Landing Days draws thousands despite generator failure; organizers vow communication fixes

City staff reported that Landing Days attracted a substantial crowd and described an operational hiccup late in the evening when a generator fuel pump failed minutes before the headliner.
Staff estimated a peak of about 2,400 people in the park at one point, said there were 38 vendors on site and praised volunteer and staff work that kept the event viable. The car show reportedly included more than 120 cars and over 60 Jeeps participated in parade activities.
"We had over a 120 cars at the car show this year," staff said. Organizers also said they received largely positive vendor feedback despite the power interruption.
Approximately five minutes before the headliner, staff said the event generator lost power when the fuel pump failed. Event staff pivoted to 120-volt single-phase equipment and brought in temporary lighting and sound solutions; a bullhorn was used to communicate with the crowd while crews troubleshooted.
"It took us about 45 minutes…but we were able to get it all troubleshooted and get it set up," staff said, and fireworks were delayed by roughly an hour but ultimately went off at the end of the night. Organizers said they will update social-media practices and coordinate cross-posting to make future live-event communications clearer.
Councilors thanked staff and volunteers for the event and encouraged continued operational improvements and clearer on-site signage in future years. No formal council action was required; staff said they will incorporate lessons learned into next year’s planning.
