Port Commission says 2014 set to be record cruise year; new James R. Herman terminal opens in September

"We're expecting 75 cruise ship calls carrying approximately 260,000 guests," the director said during the report.

The director said the new terminal will allow customs clearance off the ship and permit shore-power connections to reduce emissions.
The report also listed dates for the port’s budget process: a "State of the Port" presentation on April 30 at 1 p.m. in the City Hall legislative chambers, a primary budget hearing on Wednesday, May 14, and a reserve date of Wednesday, May 21. The director said the commission will seek approval for a two-year budget, and urged public participation at the hearings.
The commission was told about several upcoming public events, including San Francisco Coast Guard Appreciation Day at Pier 39 on April 26 (12:00–4:00 p.m.), Sunday Streets in Bayview and Dogpatch on May 4 (11 a.m.–4 p.m.), and a plaque dedication for Catherine Bakari at the Fisherman’s Wharf Chapel on May 9. The director also announced community fundraisers and volunteer opportunities tied to port programs.
The executive director closed by recommending the commission adjourn in memory of Robert (Bob) Billingham, who served as liaison for America's Cup events; commissioners assented.
Next steps: the commission will consider budget hearings in late April and May and return to port operations items as scheduled in future meetings.
