Kim Von Vaughn, Port Project Director for the Cruise Terminal Project, summarized Phase 2 scope and said remaining America's Cup cleanup (Pier 64) would be completed by port maintenance. Von Vaughn said the project requires an upgrade to the shore‑power system because moving fenders farther off the wharf (to accommodate new gangway geometry) leaves the existing cables too short.
"We estimate the cost for this will be about $1,300,000," Von Vaughn said, describing the need to extend cables and modify the supporting dunnage system. She also described earlier value engineering: by reassigning some work to port maintenance and completing load testing, the contractor scope was reduced and the contract price lowered compared with initial estimates.
Staff recommended the amendment (to Turner Construction Company/contract scope) to fund the shore‑power work and other adjustments for Phase 2. Commissioners moved, seconded and approved the resolution authorizing the amendment; the clerk announced the resolution had passed.
Next steps: staff will proceed with the contract amendment and continue to coordinate remaining America's Cup cleanups and Phase 2 work toward the projected substantial completion date.
