Palatine Township gives District 211 $3,625 to cover iPad insurance for 145 qualifying students

Palatine Township presented Township HSD 211 with a $3,625 check to cover iPad insurance for 145 qualifying high‑school students, the township’s administrator said at a district recognition evening.

Anna Chachula, who identified herself as the township administrator and said she was speaking on behalf of Supervisor Andy John J. Calcunos, described the township’s long-running back-to-school supplies program and said the township secured a $1,000 grant from “Palatine JC’s” and is adding $2,625 to the effort. "On behalf of supervisor Cal Kunos, I would like to present District 211 with a check in the amount of $3,625 to cover the cost of iPad insurance for those students," she said.

The township’s contribution is intended to pay the $25 iPad insurance fee for students who meet the program’s qualifying criteria, Chachula said: students who receive free or reduced-price lunch or otherwise demonstrate financial need and live within Palatine Township. She said the township has helped run its back-to-school program for 36 years and provides humanitarian aid and social services to municipalities in the township.

An unidentified board representative accepted the check and thanked the township in the streamed meeting. The board did not take a formal vote on the donation during the event; the presentation was made during the recognition evening while the board noted it lacked a quorum for regular business.

The district previously told families that replacement or repair of district-issued iPads can cost up to $350; the donation covers only the optional insurance premium for qualifying students, not device replacement costs beyond the insurance benefit.

The board said the regular meeting would be rescheduled and posted on the district website.
