Carmel board accepts donations, approves personnel items and schedules follow-up

During routine business at the June 18 meeting, the Carmel Central School District Board of Education approved the consent agenda with selected items moved to general action and accepted several donations. The board also carried personnel approvals and a memorial plaque resolution.
The consent agenda passed after trustees moved items 5.05 and 5.11 to general action for separate votes. Donations accepted included a $250 contribution from Verizon (to be used at Carmel High School), a $300 donation from the Kent Chamber of Commerce earmarked for art easels and a memorial plaque donation from John C. Curzio II for Private First Class Richard Turpin.
On personnel, the board approved instructional and noninstructional personnel requests (agenda item 6.01) by roll-call vote. The board also adopted a resolution (6.02) to rededicate a memorial plaque for PFC Richard Turpin; a short rededication ceremony was scheduled for Tuesday, June 25 at 11 a.m. on the Carmel High School steps.
Other standard business items — including bid awards, appointment of school counsel and additional transfers — proceeded, and a number of items (managerial confidential salaries and some contract matters) were tabled for the July 9 reorganization meeting or a special meeting to be scheduled before July 1. The board convened into executive session to discuss employment history and bargaining-unit contract matters (cafeteria workers) and will not return to public session for additional votes tonight.
