Drainage Board approves right-of-entry relaxations, encroachment agreement and ditch claims

The Vandenberg County Drainage Board met Sept. 10 after the commissioners' session and approved three operational items: a petition to permanently relax the right of entry for the Sonntag Stevens regulated ditch at 2000 Lynch Road to the statutory minimum of 25 feet, a drainage easement encroachment agreement for a gravel driveway extension and parking area at 2824 Elm Ridge Drive (Oakland Park Subdivision Section 2, Lot 57), and retroactive approval of ditch claims totaling $12,768.75 for the current meeting plus $18,639.38 carried from earlier submissions.
Surveyor and engineering staff told the board there were no drainage concerns with the encroachment and that the requested right-of-entry reduction met Indiana Code 36-9-27-33’s allowable minimum. The board approved the relaxation and instructed staff to prepare recorded documents.
Board members also directed that the commissioners' Pigeon Creek Watershed Development Commission update be incorporated into the drainage board minutes and noted the Sept. 17 state hearing.
