Eagan council adopts consent agenda, accepts fire chief resignation and approves Viking Lakes liquor-license ordinance

At its Nov. 19 meeting the Eagan City Council adopted the consent agenda by voice vote; the consent packet included acceptance of the resignation of Assistant Fire Chief Kip Springer, who served nine years with the department.
Later in new business the council considered an ordinance amendment to city code Chapter 5 to enable on-sale liquor licenses for Viking Lakes, a site being developed south of the Omni Hotel. Staff said the state legislature approved special legislation on May 8 authorizing liquor sales at Viking Lakes but that the law is not effective for local licensing until the city adopts implementing ordinance language.
Matt Slavin and Steve Poppin of MV Ventures and city clerk Beth Van Houst were present; no public comment was offered. Councilmember Fields moved approval of the ordinance amendment and the council approved the motion by voice vote and directed publication of an ordinance summary.
What happens next: publication of the ordinance summary and subsequent local licensing processes for Viking Lakes consistent with the adopted city-code amendment.
