Board approves series of routine operational items: surplus equipment, Fastenal contract, permits and street acceptances

The Evansville Board of Public Works on July 18 approved a package of routine operational items, including surplusing obsolete equipment, approving a Fastenal vending contract, authorizing replacement bids for a failed air compressor and accepting multiple permits and streets for city maintenance.
Surplus approvals: The board authorized disposal of obsolete computer hardware (asset tag 67BW7Y2) to be destroyed by CNI Electronics; staff said CNI will not charge the city unless they incur costs. The board also approved surplusing an out-of-service Condor floor scrubber whose engine failed and an original 1988 Curtis Toledo air compressor that has since failed; staff said they are soliciting three quotes for the compressor replacement and may replace it with the same model or a newer, more efficient rotary-screw unit.
Fastenal contract: Staff presented a contract to use Fastenal (a state QPA vendor) to provide vending machines stocked with pre-purchased safety and maintenance items; the equipment will use a cellular "air card" so machines are not hardwired to the city's computer system for safety reasons. The board approved the contract.
Permits and streets: City engineers recommended no exceptions to Appendix A right-of-way permit applications (Permits 1798–1827) and requested acceptance of Smythe Drive (370 lineal feet) and Menards Drive (1,083.5 lineal feet) into the city's maintenance program; staff explained Menards Drive lacked documentation of prior acceptance and located correspondence from 2009 showing intent to accept. The board approved the permits and accepted the streets.
Events: The board also approved barricade and street-closure requests for scheduled community events, including Ritzy's fantasy lights on several weekend dates and a Riverfront plaza event for which staff recommended blocking the lower plaza; the board endorsed the staff recommendation and directed staff to notify the organizer.
These items were moved, seconded and approved by voice vote during the meeting.
