Evansville public safety board approves summer event permits, amends concert hours and green-lights multiple street closures

The Evansville Board of Public Safety approved a series of special-event permits and road-closure requests at its July 10 meeting, moving several neighborhood events forward while tightening one concert-related street closure to lessen traffic impacts.
Chair (no name provided) read permit details and city conditions as members considered each request. The board approved Myriad Brewing’s summer block party (SE First Street from Locust to the McCurdy apartment parking area) for July 13, pending EPD approval, and approved the Riverwalk’s 18th annual cruise-in (Sept. 13) and WNIN’s Kids Fest permit for late September with requested barricades.
Tiki on Main had asked to close Main Street from Fifth to Sixth for an August 8 overflow event linked to a concert. Multiple members raised traffic concerns about a noon closure on a weekday; after discussion the board amended the requested hours from 12 p.m.–11 p.m. to 4 p.m.–11 p.m. and approved the amended closure. Chair noted the change was intended to reduce daytime traffic disruption.
The board also approved Wright’s Instrumental Music Booster Club’s August event (subject to COI and barricade approvals) and routinely approved several other event and street-use requests.
Separately, the board approved multiple lane restrictions and closures for utility work and tree removal: Interliner Solutions received a one-hour lane restriction on Veterans Memorial Parkway for water and sewer work; Alstom Hoffman Plumbing and Hawthorne Plumbing were approved for water-tap closures in mid-July; and several previously authorized tree-service date changes were ratified.
The meeting included a number of routine administrative approvals tied to public safety oversight, including dumpster, handicap-parking and other parking-permit requests, a massage-therapy license renewal for QM Spa at 4313 S. Morgan Ave., and the approval of claims and meeting minutes.
